Support for parents and carers

We know you never, as parents and carers, stop worrying about your loved ones, no matter how old they are – it’s part of loving them. And if you are concerned about someone's alcohol or drug use, there’s no need to feel lonely; there are other parents in the same position. There are also agencies that can help you by providing you with information, advice and support and by introducing you to other parents and carers who are going through, or have been through, similar problems and can offer help and support.

You can use this website to find information about different drugs, or alcohol use, and advice on what you can do as harm reduction or 'damage limitation' for someone who is using substances. You can also find details of where to find help in the Bolton area, whether you are looking for support for yourself or the person who is using.

The Harbour Project provides advice and support for the parents, carers and families of people with drug and/or alcohol problems.

Harbour is a voluntary organisation working in Bolton. They can give you practical and emotional support and advice, help you with finding factual information, and also provide links to related training if this could benefit you. Harbour have regular group meetings, and run a confidential telephone helpline service which is available 7 days a week. They also provide one-to-one support for anyone who prefers to meet outside of or in addition to a group setting.
