Services provided by pharmacies in Bolton
A significant number of pharmacies in the Bolton area provide specific services in relation to drug treatment. They can also give you general advice about health issues related to drug use and can refer you into treatment if you ask them to do so. Your pharmacist can also offer advice, information and referral about alcohol issues.
Needle Exchange
A number of pharmacies have a needle (and other injecting equipment) exchange service. See the Needle Exchange section for more details.
Observed Consumption of Medication
Some pharmacists will provide 'observed consumption' of medication if you are in treatment and are prescribed an opiate substitution medication (like methadone). This means you must remain in the pharmacy while you take your medication, and is usually compulsory when you first start a substitute medication. For most people, having observed consumption will only be for the first three months of treatment, but it depends on individual circumstances.
