Phone: (01204) 393660 (an answerphone service is available when the office is closed)

Address: 20 Wood Street, Bolton BL1 1DY

ADS is open Monday to Friday:   9:15am to 5:00pm (In certain circumstances it may be possible for service users to arrange appointments outside of these times – if you have particular needs, you can discuss these with your ADS worker)

 ADS is a voluntary sector (charitable) organisation that works with drug and/or alcohol users.

ADS Alcohol Treatment and Referral

ADS are the first point of contact for alcohol treatment in Bolton. They provide treatment, advice and support, and also assess people to see whether they should be treated at the Community Alcohol Team (CAT).

If you are referred or refer yourself to ADS, you will attend a Treatment Information Session, where staff will explain your options for treatment. They will determine whether being treated at ADS or the CAT will best meet your needs.

If you stay at ADS you will have several options including counselling, group work, and courses. Your worker will discuss your goals and options with you to make sure your treatment is tailored to your needs.

The Moving On Service

The Moving On Service at ADS provides advice, support and courses to help drug users with anything to do with education, training, volunteering and employment. The service looks at the holistic needs of the client, and can provide counselling, a variety of courses and groups, training for volunteers, and can help you find the right training, volunteering or job opportunities for you.

At your first meeting, a worker will talk with you to find out what you want and need. Then, with the worker, you will start to put together a plan to start working towards your goals. You will have lots of possible options to choose from and the Moving On Service will help to make your treatment personal to you.

The Abstinence Service

This is available to all Bolton residents aged 18 and over. It is aimed at clients who are abstinent from illicit drugs or are committed to achieving abstinence. It is a safe, stable environment for likeminded individuals. It is available to:

  • clients undergoing Home Detox;
  • clients who have completed a medication reduction regime;
  • stimulant drug users committed to achieving abstinence;
  • clients who have been released from prison who wish to remain abstinent.

Getting to ADS and/or getting in touch:

ADS is based at Wood Street (map), which is a short walk from the train station and close to many bus routes.

You can contact ADS by phone for advice and information or to make an appointment with an ADS worker. You can call in and book an appointment during office hours. You can ask to be referred to ADS from a lot of agencies in the community, including your GP

Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access to the Wood Street building, but appointments can be arranged at Bolton Drug Service, or a home visit may be arranged for anybody with access difficulties.
